New Year Detox

Its common knowledge that over the Christmas period we tend to overindulge and let our diets slip (or in my case forget the diet completely), so when it comes round to January we feel that a detox is in order. And while a cleanse isn't a bad thing, its not a good idea to mix various herbal remedies together.

Health professionals have released a warning on over detoxing, after a woman collapsed and has been hospitalized with side effects. It has been reported that she has suffered potential life threatening complications after consuming excessive amounts of water and herbs.

Read the British Medical Journal Case Report here.

"The complementary medicine market is very popular in the UK and the concept of the new-year 'detox' with all-natural products is appealing to those less concerned with evidence-based medicine and more with complementary medicine," say the medics in their write-up.
"Excessive water intake as a way of 'purifying and cleansing' the body is also a popular regime with the belief that harmful waste products can thus be washed from the body."
However, they warn that "despite marketing suggesting otherwise, all-natural products are not without side-effects".

The best way to cleanse your body is to eat healthy and exercise daily. There is no magic pill that you can take.
Do you want to know the secret? ... Its hard work and dedication. Shock, I know.
If you're thinking of joining a gym, now is the time! Gym's drop their joining fees to entice new customers, or if you would rather be outdoors with a friend, click here are a few exercises.

By all means do a cleanse,  incorporate more fruit into your diet, eat less processed sugars, take some vitamins/supplements, but don't take a cocktail of different tablets thinking because they are natural they must be doing something good. Do your research of what it is that you're putting into your body! You wouldn't put Diesel in your car if it ran on Petrol, its exactly the same with your body.
